On 10 June 2004 Ray Charles died
at age 73. A few days later I received a an Email from Dr. Miriam
Levitt-Flisser requesting that I write music "about Ray Charles for the ('bxscience
'63' Yahoo!-hosted) Group." I completed the work on
"Brother Ray's Gambit", for piano solo, on 13 July. Thanks, Miriam,
for your encouragement, and for reminding me of Brother Ray's monumental
significance. |
